RETREATS & RESIDENCIES
a place for creatives to re.boot re.juvenate re.invigorate
RETREATS Whether you are seeking a quiet place for a weekend to get back to craft, a week-long retreat to work on a special project or career development plans like updating portfolio, or have a more intensive plan needing an extended stay of 2-4 weeks or longer, there are opportunities for your retreat at our facility. Any stay under 30 days can be arranged as if you were booking a hotel or airbnb reservation based on availability and room choice. We'd like to know what you are working on, but it is not a tactical requirement for accepting your stay. Depending on the time of year, there may be other creatives utilizing the space so there could be opportunities for interacting formally or informally. The intention is to provide creatives from various walks of life an affordable place to live and work. Those contributing to an aspect of the care and maintenance of the facility or farm will receive a discount in exchange for your assistance. Additional expenses such as transportation or your food are not included at this juncture. The rate is determined by length of stay and whether you utilize a bed in the dormitory style space or prefer to occupy a room as a private space.
RESIDENCIES If you are seeking a longer term residency to work on a sabbatical project, a body of creative work, an overhaul on a portfolio, the novel you are trying to complete, the film documentary that needs your focused attention, or a space to clear your head to write songs, plays, or poetry, then we would like to know more about your project intentions and how much time you would like to stay at the site. The room availability will primarily be non summer months when we have more seasonal workshops, but summer may have limited space opportunities. If you have a grant for your project or would like to collaborate on a grant to help fund your stay, we would like to work with you to accomplish that. Based on a commitment of one month minimum and 6 month maximum, the monthly rate for your stay depends on the room choice and is discounted based on a commitment to spend one hour per day in the general care and maintenance of the facility based on your expertise and interest from working in the garden, to assisting in cooking or cleaning, installation/carpentry, spending time with the animals, etc. Participation as creative-in-residence for workshops would receive either credit towards accommodations or a stipend. If you require additional studio space in one of our 3 barns or the workshop garage, there may be a minimal additional rental fee.
If you are interested in professional development and career training in the discipline of graphic design as the primary objective for your retreat or residency, then you may opt to customize your experience with mentorship and/or design coaching consultation. If you are interested in training for the field of graphic design, but are hindered in any way whether it be time, money or accessibility to traditional programs, then it is possible to develop an individualized plan of study to aid you in your career path goals. This could be a combination of virtual coach sessions with email and skype along with visits to the site for in-person one-on-one classes, conversations, critiques, coaching and consultations. Contact Val via the message system or by phone to discuss your individualized plan of study.
"Although nature commences with reason and ends in experience it is necessary for us to do the opposite, that is to commence with experience and from this to proceed to investigate the reason."
- Leonardo DaVinci
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and
the storms their energy,
while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”
- John Muir
"Sometimes you've got to let everything go - purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything . . . whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you'll find that when you're free, your true creativity, your true self comes out."
- Tina Turner
